"Joshi "
The Joshi are the endogonumous Brahman Community. The synomous are Bhaddri, Bhattri,Dakaut and Jyotishi.
Demography.. The perreceive teir wide spread distribution , in the Distt, of Hardoi, Sitapur, Etah,
Shahjahan pur Farrukhabad , Mainpuri, Kanpur,Unao and Lucknow,where their
concentration is more than in other parts of UP.and Uttrachal . They speak different
dialects of Hindi and uses Devnagri script with in the kin group and with others :
Social system :- The community has seven Sub groups Viz: . Bangaraha , Chaubhayiya , Goravansh ,
Karia Vansh , Pachraulia , Silothiya vansh , and Sunaraha ..
Their Gotras , are Bhardwaj ,Dhakari & Kashyap . All gotra are equal and there is
nohierarchy. They are Brahman in the varna system . The other community also
place them high in regional social hierarchy.
" Dakaut Brahman :
P.22. Community of Himachal prdesh and Punjab .
The ardpop also pronounced as ardpopo or Harrpop or Ardpop is a small community of Dakaut Brahman , who subsist traditionally on the alms and offerings earned by practising palmistry Rose (1919) traced the etomology of the word Hararpop from THUG or money GRabbers . They are also known as Jyotishi ( astrologers) and move from place to place in search of clients. In KANGRA the BUJRUS or Bojrus who also sometimes earn by practising palmistry also subsist & mainly on alms
for the evil stars like satrun , Rahu, & Ketu . Bhole Brahman is also an uncommon synonym for the ARDPOPO in UNA, - Distt. Commonly , they call themselves GAUR BRAHMAN . Similar in the
profession & Palmistry is another groups of DAKAUT Brahman known as Bhatra or Bhatre , who are generally found in Punjab and are Vagrant- Sathu who trace their origin from MADHOMAL , a Brahman saint (ROSE-1919 ) and Popos are distributed in different parts of Bilaspur Distt. and suggest their Migration from Punjab plains during Indian Partition 1947 or earlier . They are presently some land and have settled .
Social status :- Kinship . TheArdpop , Bujrus,and Bhatras are different sections of the Broader Dakaut brahman community , There is no hierachical differetiation among the different sections but they have some gotra which are used for regulating matrimonial alliens. They claim Gaur Brahman status but other people hesitate to accept them as such. The community is endogomous and practises gotra and village enogamy. ...........................
